Soul food and weight loss are two phrases that don’t seem to fit together. Soul food is the impossibly good, tasty foods that come from the African-American tradition of cooking – the foods that light a fire in your belly and make you feel comfortably at home, no matter where you are when you eat them. Weight loss doesn’t seem to fit into that description, does it?
But it’s entirely possible to include great soul food in your diet and still watch the pounds melt away! A man named Lindsey Williams has made it happen. The grandson of Harlem’s “queen of soul food”, Williams grew up eating the best of the best in soul food cuisine – and eventually he tipped the scales at 400 pounds! He had to find a way to make his eating habits mesh with a healthy lifestyle, so he started reworking the best of his soul food recipes. The result was a great cookbook, and losing half his body weight. If he can do it, so can you!
